Pomerol  Château Le Gay

Château Le Gay is an exceptional quality Pomerol, sourced from a hectare vineyard that was previously owned by the same family as the neighboring Château Lafleur. It is now owned by the family of the late Catherine Péré-Vergé, who also possesses other renowned properties in Pomerol, such as Montviel and La Violette.

The vineyard at Château Le Gay is primarily planted with Merlot (90%) and a petty percentage of Cabernet Franc (10%), with vines averaging around 50 years vintage. This unique terroir, characterized by rich, well-drained soil, allows the grapes to fully express their potential, producing wines of excellent depth and complexity.

The production techniques at Château Le Gay are meticulous and respect tradition, with a particular focus on quality at every stage of the process. Vinification takes place in concrete and stainless steel vats, followed by aging in French oak barrels, which gives the wine its structure and distinctive character.

There are few regions in the world with stricter regulations in regards to wine production and grape varietals than those start in Bordeaux, France. Here, in the home of the world's finest wines, the type and quality of grapes used is of utmost importance, and the legendary wineries which work on the banks of the Gironde river have mastered the cautious art of juice blending to find the perfect balance for their yield. Whilst there are six 'official' Bordeaux grapes, the two key varietals for almost every fine Bordeaux wine are Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, and with good reason. Whilst Cabernet Sauvignon grapes are renowned for their acidity and astringency, strong fruit and spice flavors and packed body, Merlot grapes are notably rounded, soft, fleshy and lighter on tannin. The combination of these two varietals, along with a small percentage of (commonly) Petit Verdot or Cabernet Franc, is the perfect balancing act – the two grape varietals cancel out each others weaker points, and accentuate all that is excellent about the other.

Château Le Gay Pomerol mL

Review - 95/ - Wine Advocate

The Le Gay is a massive, masculine Pomerol, very much in the style of Gazin, but showing much more minerality, abundant blue and black fruits, a full-bodied mouthfeel, and loads of tannin in a youthful, backward style, even at age Give this wine at least another years of cellaring and brew it over the following quarter-century.
