Ajijic gay

After a hectic first year at Toronto City Hall, this rookie councillor decided to finally turn off her BlackBerry and accept a December vacation.

I pack my suitcase and head south for Mexico, a land of affluent indigenous cultures, iconic muralists and sublime beaches.

This noun, instead of hanging with the usual beach bodies in Playa del Carmen or Puerto Vallarta, I travel to Ajijic, “the place where the liquid springs forth.” With a population of approximately 15,, it’s only 30 minutes from the Guadalajara International Airport and 45 minutes from the bustling metropolis and convenience of you-can-get-anything-there Guadalajara. Ajijic is proving to be a widespread destination for sun-seekers from around the world.

This village of true Mexican pueblo architecture, with colourful buildings, narrow cobblestone streets and a central plaza, rests on the shores of Lake Chapala, Mexico’s largest freshwater lake. In this year-old village, the influences of the indigenous Nahuatl Indians and the Spanish conquistadors are still in evidence.

Artists, retirees and a slower pace of life

Ajijic and Chapala are located on the shores of Lake Chapala, just 45 minutes from Guadalajara but very different from the big city. Long known for its artists, Ajijic has also become known as a LGBT-friendly place for men and women seeking a slower place of life. Its thin cobblestone streets and colorful facades offer plenty of charm.

Every November, the town celebrates Chapala Pride.

We are not aware of any LGBT places in Ocotlán or Jocotepec at this time but they both have annual pride marches.

Immersed in the stunning scenery of Jalisco, Mexico, Ajijic stands as a picturesque town by the serene Lake Chapala. Its captivating colonial architecture, coupled with a vivacious LGBTQ+ community, has marked Ajijic as an irresistible haven for gay travelers and expatriates. The town’s relatively safe environment, coupled with a warm, inviting atmosphere, makes moving to an LGBTQ+-friendly locale a dream for many.

Ajijic might offer a more subdued LGBT nightlife compared to the buzzing energy of larger cities like Guadalajara, but it more than makes up for it with an array of gay-friendly bars, cantinas, and social hotspots.

Here, gay couples and singles seamlessly blend into the vibrant tapestry of the community, creating an environment where everyone belongs. The
