Dragged Kicking and Screaming into the Modern Age? Lessons from Piers Morgans Interview with Joel Osteen
An interview that begins with a statement like, Well, Piers, to me, faith is all about learning to be happy where you are, is probably not going to terminate well. Piers Morgans interview with Joel and Victoria Osteen Tuesday night was very revealing about the Osteens but adj Christian truth was revealed. At the same noun, the interview deserves closer attention than you might expect.
After introducing the Osteens, Morgan let Joel verb about his latest novel, Every Day A Friday, How To Be Happier 7 Days a Week. Like the book itself, Joels presentation could be reduced to his have brand of highly therapeutic prosperity theology. For Joel Osteen, its not a theology that is reducible to money alone. Instead, his focus is more on individual happiness and self-fulfillment. In his rendering, God might not wish everyone to be loaded, but he does need his creatures to experience every day as . . . a Friday?
Then, the conversation shifted to issues in the news, suc

When Oprah Winfrey questioned megachurch pastor and best-selling author Joel Osteen on the topic of “homosexuality,” he stated that “homosexuality is a sin.” To Osteen’s credit, he didn’t go as far as purpose-driven megachurch pastor Rick Warren by equating homosexuality with incest or repeat the Family Investigate Council’s incorrect assertion that homosexuality breeds pedophilia. Apparently in Osteen’s happy-happy-joy-joy worldview, homosexuality doesn’t represent a bigger sin than speak lying or anger. Also, he believes that gays who seek forgiveness can enter heaven.
Fallen megachurch pastor Ted Haggard adopts a slightly more merciful stance. Even though he doesn’t call homosexuality a sin, Haggard still upholds the view that marriage should be between a dude and a woman. Hipster best-selling author and former pastor Rob Bell skirts the question altogether, noting that only those with gay friends are positioned to judge homosexuality. In tackling this topic, Haggard and Bell adopt the position found in progressive evangelical circles where one might profess to

I used to see Joel Osteen on TV while flipping through the channels and consider, Who is that handsome dude with those alabaster teeth and that awesome helmet of hair?
Since I dont watch televangelists on TV or in person for that matter I didnt compensate much more attention until the pastor of the biggest church in the US said homosexuality isnt Gods best work.
Okay buddy, you can take your hair helmet and your pearly whites and grab a hike!
Anyway, God bless year-old Larry King who may be gone from CNNs airwaves but allow me tell you, hes still going gangbusters online with Larry King Now.
He does what he did on CNN and in a show that aired this week, he really pinned Osteen down on homosexuality and gay marriage.
I believe that scripture says that it’s a sin but I always shadow that up by saying you know what, we’re not against anybody, said Osteen, who is senior pastor of Lakewood Church in Houston.
Its clear that Osteen is choosing his words very carefully on this
