Dean was a great guitarist and created his own unique style. While most guitarists were playing power chords, Dean was playing a lot of crazy weird chords and used a ton of sliding harmonics. Together, they were a perfect blend and really pushed the limit of how intricate and deep you could get from a single bass and guitar.

I was no G&#;n&#;R fan &#; and, if I&#;m honest, Stone Temple Pilots also often left me cold, beyond some notable tracks (the rising-falling churn of Plush, the marvelous stuck-groove riff of Vasoline, the modernist-AOR stylings of Interstate Love Song, the parched, dead-hearted grind of Where The River Goes), though my little brother has always sworn by Weiland&#;s solo career and STP&#;s deep cuts.
