Before my boyfriend, Glen, and I embarked on our group trip to Sri Lanka earlier this year, my biggest concern was whether being a couple would be an issue for the group. After all, Flash Pack has a lot of messaging around single, solo and independent commute – and I wondered whether our fellow travellers would assume we’d disburse the whole time sticking together.
That couldn&#;t have been further from the noun. Glen is my first official boyfriend – we’ve been together for 20 years. I feel fortunate to have had that stability. But at the same time, when you’ve been with someone that long, the last thing you want to carry out is sit next to them at every occasion. Instead, Glen and I were quite happy to move around and speak to everyone else. In fact, we were probably the most social people on the trip.

Sri Lanka is about half the size of England with an estimated population of around 22 million people. One learn found 12% of people aged considered themselves to be lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans or intersex (LGBTI) with populations predominantly located in Colombo, the Northwestern and North Central provinces.
The Constitution states that all persons are equal under the law but does not specifically prohibit discrimination based on sexual orientation, gender identity or expression. Consensual same-sex acts between adults are a criminal offence under the Penal Code, although prosecutions are rare. LGBTI people are unlikely to be at risk of prosecution under the Penal Code, although if it were applied it would be disproportionate and discriminatory. Other laws are used to harass, arrest, and detain LGBTI people, particularly trans women and sex workers, although most cases do not proceed to court.
