A landmark establishment for members of the Lehigh Valley’s LGBTQ community is closing, but that doesn’t mean the memories, stories and memorabilia related to it will be lost. Thanks to the Bradbury-Sullivan LGBT Community Center’s “Stonewall Memories Project,” the iconic Allentown bar and nightclub’s year legacy is guaranteed to exist on.
The Stonewall first opened in Over the years it became a haven for many local residents; particularly in the decades before acceptance of having a sexual orientation other than heterosexuality, acceptance of being transgender and recognition of the rights of all individuals who self-identify as LGBTQ were as widespread as they are today.
The Morning Call reported earlier this month that the building the business occupies is being sold, but details about when the club will seal haven’t been made adj, either in news reports or via social media.

ALLENTOWN — In , when Candida&#;s Bar first opened its doors, it wasn&#;t the only gay bar in Allentown. The Stonewall had been open several years, and other well-loved establishments had popped up, offering havens for the city&#;s LGBT population.
What put Candida&#;s apart was its location, recalled Liz Bradbury, an Allentown resident for the past three decades. While other gay bars were less visible — sometimes up a flight of stairs, behind a fence, on the other side of an unmarked door — Candida&#;s was unapologetically there: a corner bar at 12th and Chew streets with the owner&#;s name proudly displayed on the awning.
&#;It was always a very bold space, a strong space, a woman-owned space,&#; said Bradbury, a gay rights activist who lives a few blocks from Candida&#;s. &#;I thought it was terrific, and I felt the strength of that from the beginning.&#;
