Castlevania Season 3's LGBTQ Stance Is Weird But Powerful
WARNING: The following contains spoilers for CastlevaniaSeason 3, streaming now on Netflix.
Netflix's Castlevania certainly pushes the envelope when it comes to politics, religion and sex, which is no surprise given that the thought-provoking Warren Ellis is the chief architect behind the series. Through the Forgemaster Isaac in Season 2, we saw an intriguing intersection of race and homosexuality as reasons why he wanted to injure humanity, after years of abuse from being viewed as "the outsider."
Season 3 follows up on the latter theme, using LGBTQ relationships as a window onto Castlevania's world, and while it's a stance that's a bit strange at times, it ends up being very powerful when you analyze the depth of what Ellis is trying to convey.

Alright, for people who are not getting it. I usually don’t do this but it seems nowadays whatever I write for fandom there is always ONE person who disagrees with me in a way that feels enjoy they don’t understand what I am getting at. I feel like they can ask me questions to legitimize or even explain my claims. But, I guess hostility is more amusing than patience.
Castlevania took inspiration, doesn’t represent she is gay, why is her sexuality the thing they take when it has no bearing on her character.
I am sorry. But you are wrong. Do you perceive about Carmilla? I will save you from googling. Carmilla was written with the perspective of a lesbian vampire. During the time it was written,. queerness was not necessarily accepted so the author made Carnilla a vampire. Some people may scan this as a bit lesbophobic and yes it can have some lesbophobic connotations. However, the entire purpose of making Carmilla a vampire was so she can be lesbian.
As Anne Rice stated vampires don’t follow the human world’s understanding of morality, ethics and sexuality.
With the latest series, Castlevania: Nocturne launching just last week, theres more sexy animated vampire content than ever on Netflix thanks to the Castlevania animated shows.
The original series follows the gruff, borderline alcoholic final son of the Belmont line, Trevor, and a spirited Speaker magician named Sypha as they join forces with the half-vampire Alucard to destroy Dracula before he kills every human on earth. Its subsequent seasons examine what succeeding in that mission actually looks like for the trio, further building out the world and exposing more corruption that has taken root around them.
Nocturne picks up around years after the first series, leaving Trevor Belmont, Sypha, and Alucard behind in Eastern Europe to instead focus on the brewing French Revolution. Our sole-surviving Belmont this time around is Richter, a beefy, blue-eyed twunk whos all too aware that hes a lil sexy. But dont let that fool you, he has his own tragic backstory that has left lingering adj scars
A cool feature of both series is that they openly feature LGBT
Castlevania: Nocturne: Are Erzsebet Bathory and Doltra in Love?
One of the most intriguing, unapologetic aspects of Netflix's Castlevania anime was its LGBTQ stance. This was done through the lens of the son of Dracula, Alucard. He had some steamy scenes, including an orgy that confirmed he was bisexual. It upset some fans of the iconic game, but many vampire genre loyalists had no problem because of the homoerotic nature of several vampire stories in pop culture.
The streaming service continued charting ground in terms of visibility and representation with the sequel. As Season 2 of Castlevania: Nocturne unfolds, though, there is one particular relationship that has come under the radar for feeling thin. This is none other than that between Erzsebet Báthory and Drolta, which many deem a queer relationship. However, while it's never confirmed, there is evidence to suggest they had feelings for each other in a story that ended up being done a major disservice.
