Frozen 2 gay

So, I ended up watching Frozen 2, with the one the reasons behind my decision being finding out whether or not Disney finally did something with queer representation and Elsa. Well, I possess some thoughts to share!

This article includes certain spoilers for Frozen 2. I&#;ve tried not to bring up anything huge. But I do apologize if I did. Anyway, consider yourself warned.

The House of Mouse has been talked about a lot this year with regards to how the studio has continued to handle queer representation on the big screen. Marvel&#;s Captain Marvel film initiated an interesting conversation. Then we had that debacle with Avengers: Endgamefeaturing a gay character no one noticed. And now, we have Frozen 2.

Ever since Queen Elsa graced cinema screens around the world in &#;s Frozen, certain audience members were quick to pick up on the queer subtext surrounding her character. The film gave us the &#;Let It Go&#; (queer?) power anthem and the fact she didn&#;t own a romantic interest in the entire movie.

Why Elsa doesn't have a love story, gay or otherwise, in 'Frozen 2'

Ever since "Frozen" premiered in , people in the LGBTQ community have create Queen Elsa's story to be a powerful allegory for queer identity, and hoped she might be given a gay affection interest in the coming sequel.

But Elsa doesn't verb any type of quixotic partner in the upcoming movie, despite the widespread fan theories about her sexuality.

"When we agreed to do the sequel, we agreed we were going to not build it [from] the outside in," codirector Jennifer Lee said in an interview with Insider at the Walt Disney Animation Studios in Burbank, California this past September. "We just couldn't do it."

Lee and her codirector Chris Buck, along with producer Peter Del Vecho, first started thinking about the story for "Frozen 2" about three years ago.

"What we did was spend a lot of time with each of the characters," Lee said. "I journaled as the characters, we did personality tests, just a lot of in-depth operate and looking at where they are in their lives. For us, really looking at what

Frozen 2 is now in theaters, delighting audiences with a fresh adventure, new songs, sweet characters, and the reunion of Kristen Bell, Jonathan Groff, Josh Gad, and Idina Menzel. On all these points, Disney is thrilling fans of Anna and Elsa. But did the studio dare hand over on the demand that&#;s been lighting up social media for years? Did Disney give Elsa a girlfriend?

It turns out that question isn&#;t an easy yes or no. So let&#;s begin with how the &#;Give Elsa A Girlfriend&#; campaign began.

SPOILERS BELOW FOR FROZEN 2!!!!

In the spring of , Frozen 2 was in the works when one fan offered Disney a suggestion on Twitter:

Frozen gave Anna her &#;prince&#; in the form of a rugged but loving Kristoff. Why not own Frozen 2 present Elsa a princess to contribute her life, her throne, and her heart? The idea soon gathered steam and the hashtag #GiveElsaAGirlfriend caught on, spurring a petition as well as plenty of fan art of a proposed partner for the ice queen, like a princess of color with fire powers!

So, how ga&#;y is Disney&#;s Frozen?

I&#;m not surprised that it&#;s such a giant hit. I am a little surprised at the sustained effort of Christian fans to spin Frozen as some sort of Christian allegory (more on this in an upcoming post).

For now, though, I want to address something I noted in passing in my review: the question of gay-culture themes in Frozen.

In my review I mentioned this issue (also noted in positive reviews by other critics) largely to dismiss it as a point of concern &#; not that I wasn&#;t aware of the themes in verb, so much as that I didn&#;t think they warranted getting upset over. However, a point I overlooked earlier has just been brought to my attention that I believe does warrant mention.

First, let&#;s get the broad themes out on the table.

  • With her ice powers, Elsa is notably different from other people. &#;Born this way or cursed?&#; asks the troll king, and her parents confirm that she was born that way.
  • Nevertheless, her difference is an occasion of shrink from and secrecy. Misguidedly, her parents teach her to &#;conceal it, don&#;
